Some typical dimension for square blooms are: nominal size 220 - 400 mm, length 2.0 - 12.0 m. The specifications for bloom delivery are: section dimension, length, rhombodity, corner radius, straightness, bending, angular twist and surface perfection (such as longitudinal cracks, transverse cracks, holes etc.).

Per definition (www.businessdictionary.com) : "In general, semi-finished rectangular or almost-square solid metal form, intermediate between an ingot and a billet in the hot-rolling process. A bloom generally has a cross-section of more than 36 square inches and is about 15 to 20 feet long. It is broken down in the rolling mill into finished products such as bars, beams, and sheet piling. In older steel mills blooms were produced from an ingot (and were called 'bloomery iron') but in modern mills they are made by continuous casting process."
