Slabs are semi-finished steel products obtained by rolling ingots on a rolling mill or processed through a continuous caster and cut into various lengths. The slab has a rectangular cross section. Slabs are used for the production of heavy machinery or for hot rolling into other thinner products like: Plates, sheet metal/strip metal, pipes/tubes, coils. A slab can be considered as a special case of Bloom i.e a Bloom with lesser thickness. A slab is rolled from an ingot or a bloom and generally has a rectangular cross section of about 250 mm by 40 mm.

Typical sizes for delivery are:
width 200 - 400 mm
thickness 40 - 80 mm
length 6.0 - 12.0 m
